Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team fell to the Pitt Panthers, 14-6, in game one of the three-game series on Friday at Charles L. Cost Field. The Spartans' Jacob Dilley was a double short of the cycle going three-for-five with one RBI.
The Spartans got after the Panthers early with Dilley mashing a triple on the fourth pitch of the game which resulted in Jake Mueller bringing him home with a single to make the score 1-0 after one inning of action. Jacob Barbour extended the UNCG lead in the top of the second with another RBI single to put the score at 2-0. However, Pitt responded in the bottom of the third, tacking UNCG's starter Noah Chapman deep with a three-run home run. The Panthers added two additional runs in the next frame to make the score 5-2 after four innings. The Blue & Gold battled back in the fifth with Mueller mashing another RBI single and JJ Parsons driving in a run of his own to make the score 5-4. In the bottom half, Pitt responded with four runs which knocked Chapman out of the game after four innings of work with the Panthers taking the 9-4 advantage.
The Spartans' offense was undaunted however, adding one run in the sixth and seventh innings to keep the lead manageable. The comeback was not meant to be as Pitt closed the door with a five-run bottom of the seventh that put the game at the final score of 14-6.
