Baseball Continues SoCon Slate At Wofford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team will continue The Southern Conference (SoCon) slate by traveling to Spartanburg, South Carolina, to take on the Wofford Terriers at Russell C. King Field this weekend. The series will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Friday with game two starting on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The final game will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

 LAST TIME OUT        

  • The Spartans went on the road and took down Liberty, 7-6.   

  • The Spartans mashed five doubles in the contest.  

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS           

  • The Spartans enter the series 12-14 overall and 5-5 in away contests.        

  • The Spartans hit better on the road, batting .305 with a .432 slugging and .395 on base, compared to hitting .273, slugging .419 and being on base .375 at home. 

  • In the past five games, Jenkins and Luke Holland have been the most productive bats for the Spartans, each accumulating six hits apiece in that span.  

  • UNCG is nationally ranked in: triples (3rd/11), triples per game (5th/ 0.42), sacrifice flies (9th/18) and stolen bases (37th/ 51).   

  • Jacob Budzik leads the team and is ranked 60th in the nation in doubles with nine. He also ranks first in the SoCon in triples with three.     

  • Jake Mueller leads the team in hits and RBIs, with 35 and 19, respectively.    

  • Chapman is one of the premier arms in the SoCon. He leads the team and the conference in strikeouts with 37.   

  • Out of the bullpen, Ayden West has been dominant with no runs allowed in the past five appearances.   

  • The Spartans were voted to finish fifth in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.                       

  • UNCG concluded the 2025 season with a 21-33 overall record and went 9-12 in SoCon play.            

  • Head Coach Cody Ellis enters his third season at the helm of the Spartans, guiding them to a 65-68 record during his time.            

         

SCOUTING THE TERRIERS    

  • Wofford enters its opening SoCon series against UNCG, 16-9 overall.   

  • Most recently, the Terriers took the weekend series, 2-1, at Xavier this past weekend.   

  • Wofford ranks nationally in: hit by pitches (4th /65), sacrifice bunts (12th/20), sacrifice flies (13th/17), stolen bases (22nd/63) and shutouts (25th/ 2). 

  • The offense is led by Niko Brini, Andrew Mannelly and Ben Timblin, who each have over 25 RBIs this season.  

  • The pitching staff is led by ace Alec Bouchard, who leads the SoCon in ERA with 2.15 to go along with 33 strikeouts.  

  • Head Coach JJ Edwards enters his third season as head of the program with a 91-56 record.      

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE TERRIERS 
The Spartans hold the 39-32 advantage over the Terriers in the series. UNCG swept Wofford in the regular season series last year but lost in the SoCon Tournament, 4-2, in Greenville, South Carolina.

The Spartans will continue the SoCon slate as they host Mercer from April 2-4 at UNCG Baseball Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
