Baseball Hosts Liberty, Then Travels to N.C. A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team will take on the Liberty Flames at home at UNCG Baseball Stadium on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m., then travel across town to battle North Carolina A&T on Wednesday at War Memorial Stadium.

 LAST TIME OUT    

  • The Spartans lost the series to Quinnipiac, 2-1, at UNCG Baseball Stadium.  

  • Brody Gardner had seven hits in the series, five runs scored and four RBIs.    

  • In game three, Hunter Shuey eclipsed his career-high in strikeouts with 10.  

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS       

  • The Spartans enter the midweek slate 6-10 overall.    

  • UNCG swept Canisius from Feb. 20-22, which is the first series sweep at UNCG Baseball Stadium since April 13, 2025.     

  • The Spartans captured their first win of the 2026 season, taking down rival N.C. A&T, 4-3, on Feb. 18.      

  • UNCG is nationally ranked in: triples (1st/9), triples per game (1st/ 0.56), sacrifice flies (37th/9) and stolen bases (48th/31).    

  • Dilley has been one of the best hitters in The Southern Conference (SoCon), hitting .414 with 24 base knocks, which is fourth and second in the league, respectively.  He also drove in nine RBIs this season.  

  • Jacob Budzik leads the team and is ranked 39th in the nation in doubles with seven. He also ranks first in the SoCon in triples with three. 

  • Jake Mueller leads the team in RBIs with 14 this season.  

  • Redshirt freshman Isaac Miles has been leading the way for the Spartans in the pitching staff. Boasting a 3.31 ERA in four appearances with 16 innings pitched.  

  • UNCG has sent 17 pitchers to the mound so far this season. 

  • The Spartans were voted to finish fifth in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.           

  • Junior left-handed pitcher Noah Chapman was named to the Preseason All-SoCon Second Team ahead of the season after throwing 68.1 innings with a 5.14 ERA in 21 appearances in 2025.        

  • UNCG concluded the 2025 season with a 21-33 overall record and went 9-12 in SoCon play.        

  • Head Coach Cody Ellis enters his third season at the helm of the Spartans, guiding them to a 60-64 record during his time.        

SCOUTING THE FLAMES 

  • Liberty comes to Greensboro with an 11-3 overall record and an eight-game win streak.  

  •  The Flames boast one of the premier pitching staffs in the nation. Ranking 10th in hits-per-nine (6.44), 10th in WHIP (1.10), 29th in earned run average (3.37) and  32nd in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.04).  

  • Starting pitcher Ben Blair is 20th in the nation in wins with three in three appearances.  

  • The offense is led by Tanner Marsh with a .327 batting average and 13 RBIs.  

  • Head Coach Bradley LeCroy enters his fourth season as head of the program with a 104-83 record.  

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE FLAMES 
UNCG leads the series 2-1 against Liberty, with the last game played back in 2015 where the Spartans took the 6-5 victory in Greensboro.  

SCOUTING THE AGGIES   

  • North Carolina A&T welcomes UNCG to War Memorial Stadium with a 3-12 overall record.  

  • The Aggies collected its first CAA conference over Elon on Friday, 2-1.  

  • Nick Dicarlo has been a hitting machine to start the season, logging 19 hits with two doubles and two triples.  

  • Bruce Wynche has been the main power bat in the lineup, knocking in 14 RBIs with two home runs so far this season.  

  • The staff is led by Aiden Hansen with a 2.49 ERA in 11 innings pitched.    

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE AGGIES   
UNCG leads the series 24-7 against North Carolina A&T. The Spartans took the two previous meetings this season, with a 4-3 win over the Aggies on Feb. 18 and most recently a 13-1 thrashing at First National Bank Field on March 3.

The Spartans will travel to the Windy City to take on the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) in a three-game series from Friday through Sunday. First pitch on Friday is slated for 4:00 p.m.
