Baseball Goes to No. 24 Wake Forest

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team travels to Winston-Salem to take on No. 24 Wake Forest at David F. Couch Ballpark on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.. This will be the second meeting between the two ball clubs this season as the Demon Deacons took the 5-1 victory in Greensboro on Feb. 24.

 LAST TIME OUT             

  • The Spartans most recently were swept by The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Samford this past weekend.  

  • Brantley Truitt led the way for the Spartans with six hits in the series.  

  • Jake Mueller extended his on-base streak to 25 and hit streak to 13 in the series. 
       

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS                

  • The Spartans enter the midweek matchup 15-24 overall and are 7-10 in away games this season.             

  • UNCG is nationally ranked in: triples (8th/15), triples per game (8th/ 0.41) and sacrifice flies (46th/21).      

  • Jacob Budzik leads the team, is second in the conference and is ranked 21st in the nation in doubles with 15. He also ranks tied for first in the SoCon in triples with three.          

  • Mueller leads the team in hits and RBIs, with 52 and 28, respectively.         

  • Freshman Tanner Berry has been hitting .385 with 36 hits and 25 RBIs driven in since entering the lineup against Pittsburgh on Feb. 28.   

  • Noah Chapman is one of the premier arms in the SoCon. He leads the team and is fourth in the SoCon in strikeouts with 56.        

  • Out of the bullpen, Ayden West has been dominant with 2.36 ERA in 18 appearances.     

  • The Spartans were voted to finish fifth in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.                            

  • UNCG concluded the 2025 season with a 21-33 overall record and went 9-12 in SoCon play.                 

  • Head Coach Cody Ellis is in his third season at the helm of the Spartans, guiding them to a 69-79 record during his time.                 

              
SCOUTING THE DEMON DEACONS  

  • Wake Forest comes into the contest 27-14 overall with an 18-5 home record. 

  • The Demon Deacons boasts one of the strongest pitching staffs in the nation, ranking third in the nation in strikeouts-per-nine innings with 12.3, 24th in strikeout-to-walk ratio and 28thin hits allowed per nine.  

  • Luke Costello is one of the most dangerous bats in the nation, leading the team and ranks 21st in the nation in RBIs with 54.   

  • Javar Williams is a threat on the base paths, swiping 25 bags this year for 18th best in the country.  

  • Head Coach Tom Walter continues his 17th season at the helm, going 524-400 in his time there.   
       

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE DEMON DEACONS  
Wake Forest leads the series 51-18, with the Demon Deacons winning the previous matchup this season, 5-1. The last time UNCG defeated Wake Forest in Winston-Salem was on Feb. 28,2018, where the Spartans took the 11-5 victory.
