Baseball Hosts the Davidson Wildcats

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team hosts Davidson at UNCG Baseball Stadium on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. The Wildcats took the first meeting over the Spartans, 7-4, on Feb. 17.

 LAST TIME OUT             

  • The Spartans dropped the first two games against The Southern Conference (SoCon) rival The Citadel but took game three.   

  • In the game three win, the Spartans clubbed four home runs which is the most in a single game since March 29, 2025, against VMI. 

  • Jake Mueller extended his on-base streak to 28 games.   
       

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS                

  • The Spartans enter the series 16-28 overall, 3-12 in the SoCon and 7-15 in home games.         

  • In the past 10 games, Brantley Truitt has been on a tear, batting .394 with 13 hits, nine runs scored, three doubles and two triples. The speedy centerfielder has also swiped seven bags in those games.  

  • UNCG is nationally ranked in: triples (9th/15), triples per game (19th/ 0.34) and sacrifice flies (52nd/22).      

  • Jacob Budzik leads the team, is fifth in the conference and is ranked 53rd in the nation in doubles with 15. He also ranks tied for third in the SoCon in triples with three.          

  • Mueller leads the team in hits and RBIs, with 57 and 29, respectively.        

  • Budzik, Mueller and Jacob Dilley are tied for the team lead in home runs with six.  

  • Freshman Tanner Berry has been hitting .375 with 37 hits, 25 RBIs and seven doubles since entering the lineup against Pittsburgh on Feb. 28.   

  • Since becoming a qualified hitter, Berry ranks 68th (fourth best as a catcher) in the nation in batting average (.375) and 109th in the country in on-base percentage (.477).  

  • Noah Chapman is one of the premier strikeout pitchers in the SoCon. He leads the team and is ranked third in the SoCon with 65 strikeouts.  

  • Out of the bullpen, Ayden West has been dominant with a 3.54 ERA in 20 appearances with 21 strikeouts. 

  • The Spartans were voted to finish fifth in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.                            

  • UNCG concluded the 2025 season with a 21-33 overall record and went 9-12 in SoCon play.                 

  • Head Coach Cody Ellis is in his third season at the helm of the Spartans, guiding them to a 70-81 record during his time.                 

              
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS  

  • Davidson enters the game on Tuesday with a 23-18 overall record and is 14-7 in conference play.      

  • The Wildcats most recently swept Atlantic-10 foe George Washington in a three-game series. 

  • Davidson ranks nationally in: triples (18th/ 14), triples per game (18th/ 0.34) and shutouts (28th/3).  

  • Cooper Cavanaugh leads the pitching staff with a 3.83 ERA in 44 innings pitched. He holds a 4-2 overall record with 56 punch outs.  

  • Matt Manjooran is the Wildcats' most dangerous bat in the lineup, accumulating 42 RBIs with 10 doubles, five home runs and four triples, while hitting .331. 

  • Jamie Daly is a power-speed threat from Davidson, mashing nine home runs to go along with his nine stolen bases.  

  • Head Coach Rucker Taylor continues his eighth season at the helm of the program with a 216-161 record.             

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE WILDCATS    
The Spartans lead the series 36-31 over the Wildcats. Davidson took the last matchup between the two, 7-4, on Feb. 17.

UP NEXT             
The Spartans will close out the 2026 home schedule in a three-game series against SoCon foe VMI this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. UNCG will honor its 10 seniors on Saturday before the start of the game.
