SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team saw junior Nya South named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Player of the Week, announced on Monday.
This is the fourth weekly award for the Spartans this season, as Brooklyn Shroyer received SoCon Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 23, March 9 and March 23.
South assisted the Spartans to a 3-1 week, which included a non-conference 5-2 win over Campbell. UNCG also won the series over Chattanooga, 2-1, with winning scores of 7-3 and 9-1 in five innings.
The junior first baseman/designated player averaged .545 at the plate this week, going 6-for-11 with three runs scored, two doubles and two home runs. She paced the Spartans with eight RBI this week and three walks, while striking out just once.
South had a homer in each of the two wins against Chattanooga. She is currently on a 15-game streak reaching base and now has 14 multi-RBI games and 14 multiple-hit games.
Among the SoCon, South is ranked first in walks per game (.67), second in on-base percentage (.508) and slugging percentage (.771), third in home runs (15) and home runs per game (.29), fifth in total bases (108) and seventh in RBI (47).

The Spartans will conclude the SoCon regular season with a three-game series in Birmingham, Alabama, against Samford from May 2-3 at Samford Softball Stadium.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, with the first game beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. CT and then face off in the final game on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. CT.
