Baseball Travels to Campbell

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team will travel to Buies Creek, North Carolina, to take on the Campbell Fighting Camels Jim Perry Stadium on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. This will be the first leg in a home-and-home split by both teams.

 LAST TIME OUT          

  • The Spartans lost the series versus Mercer this past weekend. UNCG took game one but lost the next two games as Mercer blasted seven home runs in the latter two games.  

  • Jacob Buzik was hot with the bat this previous week, hitting .500 with five RBIs, two home runs and one double.  

  • Noah Chapman led the way for the pitching staff last week with eight strikeouts.  

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS             

  • The Spartans enter the series 13-19 overall and 2-7 in conference play.          

  • UNCG is nationally ranked in: triples (15th/11), triples per game (22nd/ 0.34) and sacrifice flies (28th/19)   

  • Jacob Budzik leads the team and is ranked 92nd in the nation in doubles with 10. He also ranks first in the SoCon in triples with three.       

  • Jake Mueller leads the team in hits and RBIs, with 41 and 23, respectively.      

  • Noah Chapman is one of the premier arms in The Southern Conference (SoCon). He leads the team and the conference in strikeouts with 48.     

  • Out of the bullpen, Ayden West has been dominant with 2.14 ERA with 13 strikeouts.  

  • The Spartans were voted to finish fifth in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.                         

  • UNCG concluded the 2025 season with a 21-33 overall record and went 9-12 in SoCon play.              

  • Head Coach Cody Ellis is in his third season at the helm of the Spartans, guiding them to a 66-73 record during his time.              

           

SCOUTING THE CAMELS   

  • Campbell enters the game with a 21-10 overall record and 14-1 in conference play.   

  • Most recently, the Camels swept William & Mary in this past weekend series. Outscoring the Tribe 20-10 in the three games combines.   

  • Campbell ranks nationally in: stolen bases (12th /85), sacrifice flies (19th/20), strikeouts-per-nine (39th/9.9), triples (39th/9) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (43rd/ 2.52).   

  • Campbell's Joe Simpson is third in the nation in stolen bases with 25 this season.  

  • The offense is led by duo Jonah Oster and Joey Morton who each have 31 RBIs and seven home runs apeice.  

  • The pitching staff is David Rossow who has six victories on the season and a 2.97 ERA. 

  • Head Coach Chris Marx enters his second season as head of the program with a 46-41 record.        

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE CAMELS  
Campbell holds the 4-3 advantage over UNCG in the series. The last time the two met was in 2022, where the Camels took the 11-7 victory over the Spartans.

The Spartans will be back in action Friday, April 10, as they travel to Highland Heights, Kentucky, to take on Northern Kentucky in a three-game series. First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m.
