Baseball Gears Up for Northern Kentucky

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team will travel to Highland Heights, Kentucky, to take on the Northern Kentucky Norse in a three-game series at Bill Aker Baseball Complex starting on Friday at 2:00 p.m. Game two will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday then will wrap up with game three at noon on Sunday.

 LAST TIME OUT           

  • The Spartans most recently defeated in-state opponent Campbell, 11-4, at Jim Perry Stadium on Tuesday night.  

  • Brody Gardner went 2-for-5 with two doubles and three runs scored in the contest.   

  • Jake Colucci captured his second win of the season as he went 5.1 innings in relief with no runs earned, three hits allowed and four strikeouts. 
     

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS              

  • The Spartans enter the series 14-19 overall, 2-7 in The Southern Conference (SoCon) and 6-8 on the road.           

  • UNCG is nationally ranked in: triples (10th/12), triples per game (15th/ 0.36) and sacrifice flies (32nd/19).    

  • Jacob Budzik leads the team, is second in the conference and is ranked 42nd in the nation in doubles with 12. He also ranks first in the SoCon in triples with three.        

  • Jake Mueller leads the team in hits and RBIs, with 42 and 24, respectively.       

  • Freshman Tanner Berry has been the most consistent away bat. Hitting .472 with 14 RBIs and five doubles in away matchups.  

  • Noah Chapman is one of the premier arms in the SoCon. He leads the team and is tied for first in the SoCon in strikeouts with 48.      

  • Out of the bullpen, Ayden West has been dominant with 2.14 ERA in 14 appearances.   

  • The Spartans were voted to finish fifth in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.                          

  • UNCG concluded the 2025 season with a 21-33 overall record and went 9-12 in SoCon play.               

  • Head Coach Cody Ellis is in his third season at the helm of the Spartans, guiding them to a 67-73 record during his time.               

            
SCOUTING THE NORSE   

  • Northern Kentucky enters the series with a 13-19 overall record and are 8-4 in home games.    

  • The Norse most recently fell 12-6 to Tennessee on Tuesday.  

  • Northern Kentucky ranks first in the Horizon League in: bases on balls (157), doubles (52), doubles per game(1.68), hit by pitch (57), home runs (29), on-base percentage (.370), runs (213) and scoring offense (6.9).    

  • The Norse are led in the batter's box by Jake Paulick, who is hitting .307 with 28 RBIs on the season. 

  • The pitching staff is led by EJ Miramonetes, who has two victories on the season and a 5.93 ERA.  

  • Head Coach Chris Marx continues his ninth season as head of the program with a 129-128 record.
