Baseball Travels to Western Carolina to End Regular Season

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team travels to The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Western Carolina for the final three game series of the season at Hennon Stadium in Cullowhee, North Carolina. Game one and two begin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday with game three starting at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT                

  • The Spartans split the series against Virginia Tech this past weekend. 

  • In the game one win over the Hokies, 18-13, the Spartans set a new program record for home runs in a single game with six.  

  • Jacob Dilley led the way for the Spartans with two home runs and four RBIs for a SoCon Player of the Week nod.  
          

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS                   

  • The Spartans enter the final series of the regular season with a 21-29 overall record and 6-12 in conference play.        

  • The Spartans have hit multiple home runs in three out of the last four games played.     

  • UNCG is nationally ranked in: triples (24th/15), triples per game (26th/ 0. 30) and sacrifice flies (36th/28).         

  • The Spartans are 18-1 this season when leading after the seventh inning.  

  • Budzik leads the team and is tied for eighth in the SoCon in doubles with 16.        

  • Mueller leads the team in hits with 66.   

  • Freshman Tanner Berry has been hitting .362 with 46 hits, 25 RBIs and seven doubles since entering the lineup against Pittsburgh on Feb. 28.      

  • Since becoming a qualified hitter, Berry ranks 124th (12th best as a catcher) in the nation in batting average (.370). 

  • Brantley Truitt paces the team in stolen bases with 19 on the season.  

  • Noah Chapman is one of the premier strikeout pitchers in the SoCon. He leads the team and is ranked third in the SoCon with 76 strikeouts.     

  • Chapman currently sits at 186 career strikeouts for UNCG.    

  • Out of the bullpen, Ayden West has been dominant with a 3.38 ERA in 21 appearances with 24 strikeouts.    

  • John Horton is the Spartans' closer with five saves on the season.  

  • The Spartans were voted to finish fifth in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.                               

  • UNCG concluded the 2025 season with a 21-33 overall record and went 9-12 in SoCon play.                    

  • Head Coach Cody Ellis is in his third season at the helm of the Spartans, guiding them to a 75-83 record during his time.                    

                 
SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS 

  • Western Carolina enters the weekend with a 33-20 overall record and is 12-6 in SoCon matchups.   

  • The Catamounts most recently bested Presbyterian, 14-3, on Tuesday night.   

  • Western Carolina ranks nationally in: walks allowed per nine (23rd/ 3.51), double plays (25th/ 44), home runs (33rd/ 78), shutouts (39th/ 3) and runs (50th/393).  

  • The pitching staff is headlined by Mason Snyder, who, in 20 appearances, has pitched in 51 innings with a 1.92 ERA and seven victories.  

  • The offense is led by the trio of Walker Fox, Mason Holton and Trent Turner who each have over 40 RBIs driven in.  

  • Freshman Jaylen Jones paces the team in stolen bases with 15 this year.   

  • Head Coach Alan Beck continues his fourth season at the helm of the program with an 112-107 record.                

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE CATAMOUNTS  
The Spartans lead the series 50-41 against the Catamounts. Western Carolina took the last series matchup between the two, winning two-of-three in Greensboro, in 2025.
