Volleyball Set To Host Both Appalachian State and Western Carolina

Kim Dayton

Greensboro, NC - The UNC Greensboro volleyball team will close out the home portion of their schedule this Friday and Saturday, as the Spartans host both Appalachian State and Western Carolina in Southern Conference action.

"When we played these two teams the first time this season we did not have LaJean (Morrow) and she will add another aspect to our game as another offensive weapon," said head coach Stacy Meadows-Kosciak. "There is still a Southern Conference opportunity for us, but we know we have to put together some really good matches to do that. It comes down to any team can be beaten on any given day."

Last time out, the Spartans were edged by Wofford, 3-0. UNCG was led by LaJean Morrow, who finished with seven kills and 32 total attacks, while Kim Dayton posted a team-high eight kills with 17 total attacks and a team-high 8.5 points. The two Spartan seniors managed to keep the Spartans close throughout the entire match with their stellar play both offensively and defensively.

"It is important for us to finish the season on a positive note, but in retrospect looking at the injuries we have sustained over the past three to four weeks, they know they have to play the best ball that they can," said Meadows-Kosciak.

Friday's match against Appalachian State will begin at 7 pm, while Saturday's contest is scheduled for 2 pm.

Who to watch: Seniors LaJean Morrow and Kim Dayton will be recognized on Sunday as they take the floor in Fleming Gymnasium for the final time. Morrow leads the Spartans in kills with 303, while Dayton has given UNCG a solid defensive presence with 265 digs. For her career, Morrow ranks 8th all-time at UNCG with 687 kills.

"Both LaJean (Morrow) and Kim (Dayton) have come an exceptionally long way from when they first stepped on campus here," said Meadows-Kosciak. "They have laid some very strong groundwork and a very good foundation of where we want this program to go. I think it will be an emotional day for the both of them."
