UNCG-Davidson Box Score

GREENSBORO, NC - The UNC Greensboro women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 Southern Conference match to visiting Davidson this afternoon at Fleming Gymnasium. The Wildcats improved to 9-14 overall and 6-2 in SoCon play with the 34-32, 30-28 and 30-27 victory. The Spartans fall to 2-20 overall and 0-7 in conference action.

In game one, UNCG scored the first eight points of the match, but Davidson stormed back to square things up, 15-15. The Spartans then rattled of five straight points to lead 20-15, but the resilient Wildcats scored 10 of the next 15 points to knot the affair, 25-25. From that point, the game remained tight with Davidson going on to a 34-32 win.

It was more of the same in game's two and three with the Wildcats barely holding on to slim 30-27 and 30-28 wins. The second game featured 11 ties, while the third had 17 of its own.

Freshman middle hitter Cindy VanDervoort put away a match-high 21 kills to lead UNCG. A native of Greenville, NC, VanDervoort followed up last Sunday's career-high 28 kill performance by posting an impressive .319 hitting percentage with only six attack errors in 47 attempts. Over the last four matches, Van Dervoort has posted 79 kills, which averages out to 4.39 per-game.

Junior outside hitter Lori Collins added 13 kills, while Rebekah Faulise, a senior from Mooresville, NC, came up with a match-best 24 digs.

Katie Pierucci, a freshman from Bakersfield, CA, led Davidson with 19 kills, while sophomore Liz Williamson put away 14 kills. Tamara Gallen led the defensive effort for the Wildcats with 15 digs. Reigning SoCon Player of the Week, Jenna Dykstra dished out 40 assists and came up with 10 digs.

UNCG will host SoCon rival Georgia Southern tomorrow at Fleming Gymnasium at 2 pm.
