DAVIDSON, NC Davidson starter Thomas Middour hurled 6-1/3 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out a game-high five batters as the Wildcats defeated UNC Greensboro, 5-4, in final game of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field.
Davidson (15-11, 4-2 SoCon) opened with a two-run first inning. Alden Crissey sent a two-run shot to right-center for his fourth homer of the season. The Wildcats added two more runs in the home half of the third for the 4-0 advantage. Crissey reached on a single to left-center and scored on a Spartan fielding error. Davidson got its final run of the inning on a J.P. Craven RBI single to right.
UNCG (12-11, 1-2 SoCon) answered with four runs in the fourth to tie the game, 4-4. Guy Welsh and Tim Carrier opened up with two-out singles and junior Sean Snell drove them home on a double to left center. Senior Brandon Harvey followed with a two-run blast to left field for his first home run of the season.
With the game still tied at 4-4, Matt Webb gave Davidson the lead for good in the sixth. Craven doubled to right-center and advanced to third on a ground out before Webb sent the game-winning RBI single to left-center. Webb then tossed a perfect ninth to record his sixth save of the year.
Kory Judd (3-1) took the loss for the Spartans after allowing one run on two hits in an inning of work. Reliever Clinton McKinney struck out a team-high three batters.
Carrier finished 2-for-4 for UNCG, while Snell and Harvey each finished with two RBI a piece.
UNCG returns to the field on Tuesday when it hosts non-conference rival
High Point at UNCG Baseball Stadium beginning at 6 pm.
