Box Score
STATESBORO, Ga. – Lloyd Enzor had a pair of two-run home runs among UNCG's eight extra-base hits as the Spartans downed Georgia Southern in a Southern Conference slugfest on Saturday, 12-9 at J.I. Clements Stadium. The win evened the league series at a game apiece.
UNCG (11-7, 2-3 SoCon) pounded out 15 hits total in picking up its first win in Statesboro since 2004. In addition to Enzor's two-homer, four-RBI day, Thomas Troelstrup was 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and four RBI. Trevor Edwards also added his team-best eighth homer of the season.
The Spartans got an RBI double from Troelstrup and Enzor's first two-run shot in the top of the first for the early 3-0 lead, but the Eagles (8-11, 1-4 SoCon) got a run back in the bottom half on the first of UNCG's four errors on the day.
UNCG got the run back and then some in the top of the second, plating three more runs on an RBI single by Kris Richards and a two-run double by Troelstrup.
Georgia Southern kept pace with a three-spot of its own in the bottom half, as Chase Griffin hit his first homer of the season, a three-run shot to left, to make it 6-4 after just two innings.
Zach Leach's RBI groundout in the third made it 7-4, but GSU scored twice in the fourth to make it a one-run game. Enzor restored UNCG's three-run cushion with his second two-run blast in the top of the fifth.
Troelstrup had his third RBI hit of the game the following inning, knocking in Cole Harrison with a single through the right side, but GSU got the run back on an Eric Phillips sacrifice fly in the bottom half.
The Spartans tacked on two more runs in the top of the eighth, with Richards scoring on an error and Edwards hitting a two-out solo homer.
The Eagles capped the scoring with a run in the eighth on a wild pitch and a T.D. Davis solo homer in the ninth.
Zach Furl picked up the win in relief, allowing just one hit in 2/3 of an inning. GSU starter Josh Stevenson allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits and a walk in two innings. Eleven pitchers saw action Saturday, with the Spartans using six and the Eagles using five.
