Box Score BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Cesar Trejo (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) hit his third home run of the season in an 8-2 victory over the Campbell Camels on Wednesday evening at Jim Perry Stadium, on Campbell University's campus. UNCG improves to 20-6 on the season, while Campbell falls to 14-12 on the year. The Spartans' 20th win comes almost a full month prior to when it did in 2015. UNCG earned its 20th win on April 28th of the 2015 season.
“Keaton gave us one of his best starts.” Head Coach Link Jarrett said, “The four-pitch first inning isn't seen very often. Defensively, by the numbers it wasn't one of our best games, but we made some key plays. Cesar (Trejo) coming to get a ball early, the double play in the ninth. (Ben) Spitznagel going deep in the hole and extending, Cesar again up the middle, allowing Goss to handle the low throw and gets the runner at home early in the game. Those kinds of plays help limit the offensive momentum. Offensively, the wind knocked a lot of balls down for both teams. It wasn't that kind of day. When you get those opportunities like we did having the bases loaded in the fifth thanks to Spitznagel's bunt, then L.J. (Kalawaia) gets a knock, and (Collin) Woody doubles and you can roll with it. They (Campbell) have built a very powerful, consistent program. It was a good win.”

Andrew Moritz (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) and Ryne Sigmon (Danville, Va./Danville CC) each finished with one hit, with Moritz collecting an RBI and Sigmon scoring a run.
Keaton Haack (Greensboro, N.C./Pitt CC) (1-1) started and threw a career-high 5.0 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out three, earning his first win of the season. Jake Lewis (Wendell, N.C./Corinth Holders) threw the next 3.0 innings, allowing only one hit and striking out three. Easton Welch (Randleman, N.C./Randleman) finished the game off in the ninth, inducing a double play and a ground out to wrap up the win.
The Spartans broke open the scoreless game in the top of the fifth inning, plating five runs. Goss and Trejo worked walks to start the inning, before Spitznagel laid down a bunt and reached safely due to a fielding error by the Camels. Kalawaia singled to right field to score Goss and Trejo and break open the scoreless tie. Woody followed with a double to right center before scoring on a Moritz single to give the Spartans the 5-0 lead.
The Camels scored a pair of runs in their half of the fifth inning. After a lead off walk and a single, an error and two groundouts allowed two runs to score.
UNCG matched the Camel's two runs in the top of the sixth. After a lead off double from Goss, Trejo drilled his third home run to left. Goss added another run in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI groundout. The Spartans led 8-2 at the stretch.
The Spartans return to action as they open Southern Conference play against the VMI Keydets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 1st at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.
