GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro men's soccer team featured two of the 25 freshmen players in the nation according to Top Drawer Soccer.
In a recent ranking of the top 100 freshmen from the 2021 spring season, the Spartans had
Theo Collomb and
Emmanuel Hagan on the list. Collomb was ranked 16th and Hagan was ranked 25th overall.
The Postseason Top 100 Freshmen list is out, covering the top first-year players in men's Division I college soccer over the course of the most recent school year.
The Top 100 rankings were constructed in consultation with The Soccer Syndicate, North America's only independent soccer scouting
network.
Collomb and Hagan each earned First Team All-Southern Conference honors and a spot on the United Soccer Coaches South All-Region Third Team
. Collomb was named the co-Freshman of the Year and also earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team. He
was named to the College Top Drawer Soccer.com Best XI All-Freshman Second Team.
They helped UNCG win the Southern Conference Tournament championship and make its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in over a decade. In addition, the Spartans received votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll and was ranked 30th in the College Soccer News final polls of the 2021 spring season.
UNCG finished with a 9-3-2 record and a .714 winning percentage, the best since 2005 (.717).
The Spartans were nationally ranked by Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News during the regular season. UNCG led the SoCon in shots (207), points (72) and goals (27).
Nationally, UNCG ranked 12th in total goals (27) and corner kicks per game (6.79), 19th in goal differential (+13), 20th in shots per game (14.64), 22nd in total points (73), 23rd in scoring offense (27), 30th in shots on goal per game (6.14), 32nd in winning percentage (.714), 33rd in total assists (19), 42nd in shutout percentage (.429), 43rd in points per game (5.21), and 49th in goals against average (.958).
Collomb, who is from Clermont, France, was named the SoCon co-Freshman of the Year. He was also selected to the All SoCon First Team. He was ninth nationally in shots on goal per game (1.86), 12th in goals (eight) - Collomb, 19th in shots per game (3.43), and 42nd in goals per game (.57).
Collomb, who was named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Month for March, led the SoCon in goals. He scored five goals, including consecutive game winners, during the month of March. He scored an overtime goal with 1:11 remaining to help UNCG beat Belmont. He also had an assist in that game as well.
Collomb scored the decisive goal against Wofford in a 1-0 win. Collomb also earned SoCon Player of the Week honors on March 30.
Hagan from Accra, Ghana was part of a strong defensive unit for the Spartans that allowed 0.91 goals per match. His effort helped UNCG record six shutouts. The Spartans entered the SoCon playoffs not having allowed a goal in 225 minutes.
