McCaslin and Christopher Earn Titles at Mondo College Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's and women's track & field teams opened the 2022 indoor track & field season at the Mondo College Invitational at the JDL Fast Track.
 
The Spartans saw three career bests among the two teams, including sophomore Kristin Hogan, senior Chandler McCaslin, and senior Joe Thoma. The Blue & Gold also saw McCaslin and senior Dylan Christopher earn first-place finishes.
 
Hogan finished 37th out of 51 competitors in the 200-meter run clocking in a career-best time of 28.76. She was second in her heat.
 
McCaslin crossed the finish line first in the mile, clocking in a time of 5:16.56, a career best for her. Shay Soukup was the next Spartan across the finish line in the mile, running the event in 5:23.09, good for fourth out of 26 competitors. Freshmen Serena Henderson and senior Meredith Roberts competed in their first-collegiate mile, placing 21st and 23rd, respectively.
 
Freshmen Camile Carlson and Bella Manfre competed in the 800-meter run for their first-collegiate races. Carlson placed fourth out of 28 competitors with a time of 2:33.33, while Manfre wasn't far behind with her sixth-place finish and time of 2:36.56.
 
Senior Dylan Christopher ran the mile taking home first out of 24 competitors. His time of 4:23.29 was three seconds off his career best. Classmate Joe Thoma ran a personal-best time of 4:23.97 in the event, taking home third overall. Senior Thomas Knepshield placed seventh with a time of 4:28.67.
 
Freshman Ethan Long, in his first-collegiate indoor event, finished eighth behind Knepshield, with a time of 4:29.47. Senior Nicholas Thoma rounded out the Spartans with a ninth-place finish and a time of 4:35.79, just two seconds off his career best.
 
In his first time competing in the 3000-meter run, senior Colin Alexander ran a time of 8:38.20 taking home the runner-up mark.
 
Up Next
UNCG is scheduled to compete at the two-day USC Carolina Challenge in Columbia, South Carolina on Friday, January 21 to Saturday, January 22 at the Carolina Indoor.
