CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's cross-country team competed in the 2022 Southern Conference (SoCon) Championship where they placed eighth overall with 193 points at the Johns Island County Park on Sunday.
Furman earned its 10
th championship with a total of 15 points, while Samford totaled 62 placing second, and ETSU came in third with 82 points.
The Spartans managed to place eighth with 193 points. Five Spartans finished within the top 50, with two setting new personal records.
The first Spartan to cross the finish line was the junior Jenna Reiter. Reiter was in 29
th by the two-kilometer split and pushed herself up to 27
th until settling into 28
th by the end and ran a season-best time of 18:31.0.
Less than a minute behind, sophomore Camille Carlson and freshman Victoria Sosa finished 41
st and 42
nd, respectively with times of 19:10.9 and 19:12.1. By the first split, Carlson was in 59
th place behind teammates Soukup and Burk. Carlson was able to make up time by the four-kilometer split and made it all the way up to 44
th, before finishing out in 41
st.
Bella Manfre who crossed the two-kilometer split in 48
th managed to make up time and end with a career best time of 19:25.6 time which earned her 46
th place. Rounding out the top 50 was Shay Soukup, who was in 58
th place by the 2K mark and climbed all the way up to 47
th before finishing the race in 50th, clocking in at 19:34.8.
By the second split, Laila Burk was in 66
th running at a pace of 8:22.1. Burk was able to push and finished 60
th with a career best time of 19:51.6. Chandler McCaslin took 66
th with a time of 20:02.7. Less than a second behind was Reagan O'Quinn finishing at 20:03.4 in 67
th place.
