SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
--The Spartans welcome 16 new faces to the 36-man roster. Of the 16, 10 are true freshmen and six are transfers.

Hogan Windish,
Austin Parsley, and
Pres Cavenaugh earned preseason awards.
--Windish and Parsley earned a spot on the Preseason All-SoCon Second Team.
-- Cavenaugh was tabbed the Perfect Game's Preseason Player of the Year for the SoCon. Parsley was named to the Preseason team as well.
--For the second year in a row, Windish was named to the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award Watch List.
--UNCG will face three power five teams this season. After South Carolina, the Spartans will head to Winston-Salem for a Tuesday afternoon clash with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
SCOUTING THE GAMECOCKS
--South Carolina finished the 2021 season with a 34-23 overall record and a 16-14 record in the Southeastern Conference.
--The Gamecocks hosted the NCAA Carolina Regional. Their 2021 season ended with a 3-2 loss to Virginia.
-- Carolina's roster has 12 new faces, all are true freshmen.
--Sophomore Will Sanders earned a spot on the Preseason All-SEC Second Team.
--Andrew Easter and Braylen Wimmer are the returning home run leaders. Both finished last season with 11.
SERIES HISTORY
--This is the second time in six years that the Spartans and Gamecocks have opened the season against each other.
--The Spartans took one game of the three back in 2017.
--Austin Embler scored the lone run of the game on a groundball by Ben Spitznagel.
