LYNCHBURG, Va. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's and women's track & field teams competed in the two-day Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic from Friday, April 15 to Saturday, April 16.
The Spartans saw 15 personal best times, while 10 competed in an event for the first time. Two from the men's team took home the individual title in events.
Men
Senior
Colin Alexander led the way as he broke the UNCG school record in the outdoor mile. Alexander finished third overall with a time of 4:07.15. This time broke Paul Chelimo's '13 time of 4:08.06 from March 22, 2013 at the HPU VertKlasse Meeting.
Senior
Joe Thoma finished first out of 22 competitors on Friday in the 5000-meter invitational. Thoma clocked in a time of 14:22.49.
Michael Zapherson and
Thomas Knepshield followed Thoma, taking second and third, respectively. They both ran personal best times of 14:30.39 and 14:45.17, respectively.
Freshman
Colin Keck also took home an individual title, as he placed first out of 40 competitors in the 1500-meter run with a personal best time of 4:00.81. Classmate
Spencer Connick also ran a personal best time in the event, running 4:19.01.
Nicholas Thoma earned himself a top-10 finish in the 800-meter run, crossing the finish line in 1:56.05, good for seventh out of 49 competitors.
Zin Maung placed fifth out of 20 in the 100-meter dash clocking in a personal best time of 11.66-seconds.
Owen McArthur also ran a career-best in the event.
Maung competed in the 200-meter run, as well, running a personal best, while
Andrew Hamilton,
Owen McArthur, and
Emmett Yacouba competed in the event for the first time.
Hamilton set a personal-best mark in the 400-meter run, clocking a time of 54.14-seconds.
Women
On Friday evening,
Meredith Roberts competed in the 1500-meter run and crossed the finish line in 5:20.58 for a new personal best. She was 17
th out of 30 competitors.
The same night,
Ariana Garcia ran a personal best in the 5000-meter invitational, clocking in a time of 17:42.59 finishing third out of 13.
Chandler McCaslin finished the event in a personal best time of 18:17.11, taking home seventh.
In the 800-meter run,
Serena Henderson placed fifth out of 37 competitors, running her personal best time of 2:26.98.
Jessica Cullins also ran a career-best in the event.
Christina Davis, who competed in the 100-meter dash ran a personal best.
Camille Carlson and
Bella Manfre ran their first-collegiate outdoor 5000-meter run. Carlson finished third, while Manfre placed sixth out of 16 competitors.
Shay Soukup debuted in the 5000-meter invitational, while
Jasmine Cullins ran her first-collegiate 800-meter run. Soukup took ninth in the event.

UNCG has the two-day Virginia Challenge scheduled from Friday, April 23 to Saturday, April 24 in Charlottesville, Virginia. The team also has the Aggie Classic lined up for Saturday, April 23 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
