Women’s Basketball Travels to Spartanburg for Matchup with USC Upstate

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team will continue its non-conference slate by traveling to Spartanburg, South Carolina, on Saturday for a matchup with USC Upstate at 4:30 p.m. in G.B. Hodge Center.
 
UNCG leads the overall series against USC Upstate at 5-3. The Blue & Gold have secured the last three meetings with the most recent coming last season in Greensboro, 62-54, on Nov. 9, 2024.

LAST TIME OUT FOR UNCG
  • UNCG earned a dominating 96-25 win over Columbia College on Tuesday in Bodford Arena.
  • Six Spartans reached double-figures in the game. Jeni Levine led the contest with 18 points. Joelle Davis followed behind with a new career-best 14 points. Ciara Harris added 13 points, while Tasia Johnson and Makiah Asidanya chipped in 12 points apiece. Mia Simpson rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points.
  • Six consecutive points from Asidanya got the scoring started in the contest for Columbia College to never lead in the game.
  • Rylan Moffitt led the game with 10 rebounds.
  • 10 different Spartans scored in the contest.
  • UNCG led the way in points off turnovers (24-4), rebounds (56-29), second chance points (19-6), bench points (40-19), points in the paint (58-16), fast break points (31-4), blocks (4-2), steals (12-6) and assists (25-3).

  • The Spartans are pacing The Southern Conference (SoCon) with a 60.8 scoring defense.
  • The squad is second in the league with a 6.9 three-pointers per game average.
  • Levine is pacing the SoCon in points per game at 14.9.
  • Johnson leads the conference with a 2.40 assist/turnover ratio.
  • Asidanya is second in the SoCon in three-point percentage (37.2) and three-pointers per game (2.00).
  • Levine (14.9) and Asidanya (12.5) continue to lead the squad in double-figures.
  • Levine has notched double figures in seven out of eight games this season.
  • Moffitt leads UNCG in rebounds (7.0) and blocks (0.9).

  • UNCG comes into the 2025-26 season after a historic 2024-25 campaign.
  • The Spartans earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament last season for the first time since 1998. The team defeated Chattanooga, 64-57, in The 2025 SoCon Championship, earning an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
  • The team fell to No. 1 USC in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California.
 SCOUTING USC UPSTATE
  • USC Upstate comes into Saturday's contest at 4-6 overall.
  • The squad most recently defeated SoCon foe Western Carolina, 55-44, in Cullowhee, North Carolina, this past Wednesday for its first road win of the season.
  • USC Upstate is currently undefeated at home this season at 3-0.
  • USC Upstate was voted to finish sixth in the 2025-26 Big South Preseason Poll.
  • Upstate paces the Big South in rebound margin (7.2), rebounds per game (40.60) and three-point percentage (37.6).
  • The team's 37.6 three-point percentage ranks 24th nationally.
  • Cassie Gallagher stands out for the team nationally in several statistical categories: three-pointers (11th/28), three-point percentage (13th/50.9), points (22nd/168), field goal attempts (23rd/132), field goals (33rd/59) and three-pointers per game (42nd/2.80).
  • Vera Soderblom paces the team off the glass, averaging 6.6 boards per game.
  • Kinley Peterson leads Upstate with a 2.4 assists per game average and 0.8 steals per game.
  • Lexi Castator stands out with six blocks this season.

FLEMING GYMNASIUM RENAMED BODFORD ARENA
  • On Saturday, Nov. 8, Fleming Gymnasium, home to UNCG volleyball, women's basketball and men's basketball was renamed to Bodford Arena.
  • This historic moment for the department was made possible through a transformational $2 million gift from the Bodford family.
  • This generous support represents the largest unrestricted gift in the history of UNCG Athletics, as well as the first associated with naming a competitive athletic facility.  
  • The University is already familiar with the Bodford name - the Bodford Family Speed, Strength & Conditioning Center was dedicated in October 2020.
