GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's and women's track & field teams competed in the two-day Aggie Classic, held right down the street at NC A&T.
The Spartans saw 12 personal best times, while seven competed in an event for the first time.
This was the last regular season meet before the Spartans compete in the 2022 Southern Conference (SoCon) Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Men
Six of the men clocked in personal bests, with
Joe Thoma leading the way in the 1500-meter run on Friday. Thoma ran the event in 3:48.96 taking second out of 32 competitors. According to record books, his time is top three all time.
Dylan Christopher and
Michael Zapherson also placed in the top 10, with Christopher finishing sixth and Zapherson taking eighth. Zapherson's time of 3:57.14 was a career best.
Cameron Belk also clocked in a personal best in the event running a time of 4:07.74.
Colin Alexander's time of 1:51.81 in the 800-meter run was a career best, as well as a top-two time in UNCG record books. He finished second out of 45 competitors.
Nicholas Thoma and
Colin Keck also ran personal bests in the event, placing 13
th and 18
th, respectively.
Six Spartan men debuted in an event this weekend, including
Owen McArthur who took first in his heat of the 200-meter sprint.
Women
The women saw six personal bests at the classic
On Friday, freshman
Bella Manfre clocked in a personal best time of 5:00.37 in the 1500-meter run, taking 15
th place out of 33 competitors.
Meredith Roberts also ran a career best time of 5:18.08 in the event.
On Saturday, three of the Spartans that ran in the 800-meter run ran personal bests, including freshman
Laila Burk,
Jessica Cullins, and
Jasmine Cullins. Burk finished 36
th overall with a time of 2:30.73, placing second in her heat.
Naomi Pridgen crossed the finish in the 100-meter sprint with a personal best time of 14.53, while
Madison McMasters debuted in the event.
