GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team hits the road for three games with a single game tomorrow, Tuesday, March 15 against the Charlotte 49ers with a start time of 4:00 p.m.

The 49ers are currently ranked 25th in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and are receiving votes in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll. Charlotte recently dropped out of the D1Softball Poll.

A DECADE OF COACHING
Janelle Breneman enters her 10th season at the helm of the Spartans with a 284-177. The Blue & Gold have accumulated a record of 15-8 this season, to bring Breneman's record to 299-185, one win from 300.
 
OUT OF THE PARK
The Spartans have recorded at least one home run in 19 of the 23 games played this season.
 
UNCG has had 12 games with two or more home runs. The Spartans have had four games with three home runs. There has been one game with a season-best four home runs.
 
Four Spartans have tallied five home runs each, including graduate student Makenna Matthijs, graduate student Jordan Gontram, junior Blayke Batten, and senior Delaney Cumbie.
 
Grace Loftin is second on the team with four home runs, while Maycin Brown, Samantha Lagrama, and Hannah Kincer have three each. Brooklynn Maxwell and Jessie Shipley each have two homers.
 
SPARTANS' LAST TIME OUT
  • UNCG blanked Delaware State on Sunday 8-0 in five innings for the first shutout of the season.
  • Freshman Reese Byrd struck out five in the win and recorded her first-collegiate no-hitter.
  • This was the 13th no-hitter in program history and first one since February 24, 2018 when Stephanie Bryden '19, current volunteer assistant coach, defeated Virginia 8-0 in five innings.
  • UNCG totaled four home runs in the victory posting a season best.
  • Two homers came from Lagrama and two came from Cumbie.
  • Matthijs, Batten, and Gontram each recorded a double, while Batten and Gontram tallied a RBI each.
SCOUTING CHARLOTTE
  • The Charlotte softball team was chosen as the preseason favorites in Conference USA.
  • Senior catcher Bailey Vannoy was named to the Preseason All-Conference team as well as Preseason Player of the Year.
  • Infielders Kourtney Gremillion and Cori Henderson were named to the Preseason All-Conference team.
  • Last year, head coach Ashley Chastain led the squad to their most successful season with a 31-19 overall record and claimed the Conference USA East Division.
  • Currently, Vannoy leads the team with a .444 batting average, 36 hits, three triples, nine home runs, and 21 RBI.
  • In 62.1 innings pitched, Lindsey Walljasper leads the staff with a 2.36 ERA and a 7-2 record. She has struck out 52 batters.
  • Amelia Wiercioch is second with 53.2 innings tossed and a 2.74 ERA and a 6-2 record.
  • As a team, the Charlotte 49ers have hit 28 homers.
HISTORY VS. CHARLOTTE
  • Charlotte 49ers lead the series 43-34.
  • In 2021, UNCG defeated the Charlotte 49ers 10-2 on April 28, but fell to them on April 14, 11-4.
