GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team takes on Elon in a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 19 at Hunt Softball Park, before hosting the Phoenix on Sunday, March 20 for a single game.

A DECADE OF COACHING
Janelle Breneman enters her 10th season at the helm of the Spartans with a 284-177. The Blue & Gold have accumulated a record of 16-8 this season, to bring Breneman's record to 300-185.
 
Her 300th win came in dominant fashion as the Spartans defeated the Charlotte 49ers with an 8-1 score on Tuesday, March 15 at Sue M. Daughtridge Stadium.
 
She is the winningest softball coach in UNCG history. She bypassed previous head coach Melody Cope's 220 wins on March 31, 2019 with a 4-3 win at Chattanooga.  
 
OUT OF THE PARK
The Spartans have recorded at least one home run in 20 of the 24 games played this season.
 
UNCG has had 12 games with two or more home runs. The Spartans have had four games with three home runs. There has been one game with a season-best four home runs.
 
Four Spartans have tallied five home runs each, including graduate student Makenna Matthijs, graduate student Jordan Gontram, junior Blayke Batten, and senior Delaney Cumbie.
 
Grace Loftin and Samantha Lagrama are second on the team with four home runs, while Maycin Brown and Hannah Kincer have three each. Brooklynn Maxwell and Jessie Shipley each have two homers.

SOCON SWEEP
Junior Maycin Brown was tabbed SoCon Player of the Month for February.
Junior Morgan Scott was most recently selected SoCon Pitcher of the Week on March 14.
Senior Delaney Cumbie was tabbed SoCon Player of the Week on March 7 after helping UNCG to a 3-2 week.
Junior Blayke Batten led the way for the Spartans during their five-game week. She earned UNCG's second Player of the Week award on Feb. 28.
Graduate student Jordan Gontram earned the first SoCon Player of the Week award for the Spartans announced on Feb. 21.

SPARTANS' LAST TIME OUT
  • UNCG totaled 11 hits in a dominant 8-1 victory over the Charlotte 49ers on Tuesday afternoon.
  • This was the seventh game with double-digit hits.
  • Along with the third-straight win for the Spartans, head coach Janelle Breneman recorded her 300th win with UNCG.
  • Morgan Scott struck out seven batters in her 11th complete game of the season.
  • Samantha Lagrama blasted out her fourth home run of the season, 18th of her career.
  • UNCG's five doubles was a season best.
SCOUTING ELON
  • Elon was tabbed third in the 2022 CAA Preseason Poll.
  • The Phoenix returned 15 players from the 2021 squad, as they went 10-8 during CAA play in the South Division and 18-21 overall.
  • Four Phoenix have started and played in all 24 games this season, including Gabi Schaal, Megan Grant, Rebecca Murray, and Keagan Goldwait.
  • Murray leads the team with a .353 batting average.
  • Schaal has a team-high 22 RBI.
  • McKenzie Weber leads the pitching staff with a 1.53 ERA and 3-2 record as she has pitched in 36.2 innings.
  • Isley Duggins has thrown the second most innings with 26.0, as she has a 4-2 record and a 2.69 ERA.
  • The Phoenix have stolen 28 bases with Murray stealing 14 of 14.
HISTORY VS. ELON
  • UNCG leads the series 53-41-2
  • In 2021, UNCG had a 4-1 record over the Phoenix, winning 13-3, 11-3, 15-7, and 9-6.  
  • In the 13-3 win on March 10, UNCG hit five home runs in the seventh inning setting a program record for homers in a single inning.
  • At the time it was also tying a NCAA record.
UP NEXT
Following the single game against Elon on Sunday, UNCG will continue a six-game homestand. The Spartans open SoCon play on Saturday, March 26 with a doubleheader hosting Mercer at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
