A standout on the soccer pitch and in the classroom for the Spartans, Heather Duryea was one of the most versatile players in UNCG women’s soccer history. She was the only women’s soccer player to play every position on the field at least once in competition.
After 30 years, Duryea is still ranked top-10 in team records for total goals (32) and points (75). She was the team’s offensive MVP in three of its first four years of existence – 1988, 1990 and 1991.
Duryea is UNCG’s only two-time College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American, being voted to the third team in 1990 and the second team in 1991. She was named All-South Region first team in 1990 and honorable mention in 1988.
She helped guide the team to a 47-25-1 record in three seasons of dominant play in Division II and the first season in Division I, and graduated from UNCG in 1992.
Heather resides in Crested Butte, Colorado with her husband, David White, twin daughters, Emma and Jessie, and golden retriever, Maggie. She holds a Master’s Degree in Special Education, and has advanced training in teaching reading to children with dyslexia.
