DeAngelis was among a core group of initial recruits who ignited the Spartans’ progression from 9-33 overall as an independent NCAA Division II affiliate in the spring of 1991 to a 39-18 record by the senior season, the first time with 30-plus wins for the three-year-old Division I program.
The 1994 Spartans won the Big South Conference Championship and were the first UNCG men’s team to advance to NCAA competition at the Division I level. They went 2-2 in the South Regional in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, defeating Southeastern Louisiana 22-12 and Tulane 4-1.
DeAngelis was an All-Big South first-team selection in 1994. He led the league in doubles that season, totaling 21 in 57 games.
He is ranked in the top 10 in multiple UNCG single season and career records, including leading the program with 60 doubles and 136 walks in his career.
DeAngelis paced the team in doubles three of his four years and slugging percentage two of the four.
He was drafted in 1994 by the Colorado Rockies in the 33rd round.
DeAngelis is currently living in Raleigh, North Carolina, working for Juniper Networks as a Virtual Sales Account Regional Manager.
