Now in his 25th season (as of 2025-26 season) at the helm of UNC Greensboro men’s golf, Head Coach Terrance Stewart has built UNCG into a perennial championship contender and a respected presence on the national stage.
The Spartans have been among the top programs in the Southern Conference (SoCon) for more than a decade and have earned eight team NCAA Regional appearances, including multiple at-large bids. The team has finished fifth or better in every SoCon Championship since 2010.
Stewart has guided UNCG to numerous milestones, including SoCon team championships in 2015, 2018 and 2019 and individual conference titles in 2007, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2025. He has been named SoCon Coach of the Year twice.
Under his direction, the Spartans have produced two All-Americans, 50 All-SoCon selections and seven SoCon Freshmen of the Year, illustrating his ability to recruit and develop elite talent.
Stewart’s squads have repeatedly set new standards for excellence.
- In 2024-25, Colin Dutton ‘25 won the individual SoCon Championship and earned an NCAA Regional berth. UNCG posted four regular-season tournament victories, the most in program history, and a runner-up finish at the SoCon.
- In 2023-24, Kelvin Hernandez ’27 became the first Spartan to compete individually at the NCAA Division I Golf Championship. That season included two tournament wins and eight top-five finishes, while Hernandez was named SoCon Freshman of the Year.
- In 2019-20, UNCG captured its first-ever outright SoCon title and NCAA Regional berth and ranked No. 53 nationally by Golfweek. Jonathan Brightwell ’20 became the Spartans’ first Division I All-American. Stewart was named SoCon Coach of the Year.
- In 2018-19, the team captured a then-record four tournament titles, including a dominant SoCon Championship victory and NCAA Regional appearance.
Before joining UNCG, Stewart coached at Lenoir-Rhyne College (now University), earning South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year honors in men’s and women’s golf and leading the women’s squad to two NCAA Division II Championship appearances.
