ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
Lynne came to UNCG in 1981 inheriting a women's team that finished 8-15 the previous season and had only one winning record in seven prior years. In her first season, she completely turned the program around, going 24-3 with a talented group of freshmen and two transfer student-athletes. This squad also reached the finals of the inaugural NCAA Division Ill Championship, losing by one point in overtime. For the next six years, the Spartans' women's basketball team would reach the Division Ill playoffs becoming one of only I0 teams nationally (all divisions) to reach the NCAAs in that time period. Lynne's teams have placed third in the Division Ill championship and have also competed in the Division II and I tournaments respectively, along with a Women's NIT berth in 2002.
Lynne has coached four All-Americans at UNCG -Angie Polk-Jones, Renee Coltrane, Wendy Engelmann-Gittings, and Carol Peschel. Three of these individuals have preceded her as inductees into the Hall of Fame. In addition to coaching basketball, Lynne guided the women's tennis team to a Division Ill Championship runner-up finish in 1983 and served as an associate director of athletics for 15 years.
