ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
Kyle Hines is the most honored and accomplished men’s basketball player in the NCAA Division I era at UNCG, including earning an honorable mention All-America award. He competed for the Spartans from 2004-08.
Hines is one of only six players in NCAA Division I history with at least 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 300 blocked shots. The others are Alonzo Mourning, David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Pervis Ellison and Derrick Coleman.
In the UNCG men’s basketball record book, he is ranked first in scoring, field goals, free throw attempts, blocks and scoring average, second in rebounds and fourth in steals.
He also holds two records in Southern Conference history, including individual season blocks and career blocks. He was named the 2004-05 SoCon Coaches and Media Freshman of the Year and 2006-07 SoCon Coaches and Media Player of the Year.
Hines was voted to SoCon All-Conference teams five times, which includes an All-Freshman nod, as well as earning selections to the Media first team three times and third team once.
He was recognized on the SoCon All-Tournament first team in 2005, 2006 and 2008 and second team in 2007. At the conclusion of the 2006-07 season, Hines was named Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention.
Following his collegiate career, Hines went on to play professional basketball in Europe from 2009-24. He holds the all-time record among all players for competing in the most games in the Euro League.
His teams won four European Championships and six LTB League Championships. He was selected to the All-Decade Europe Team and is a three-time Best Defensive Player.
Hines resides in New Jersey along with his wife Giann and their kids, Anya, Justin and Cassius. After 16 years of playing professionally basketball in Europe, Kyle recently retired and is currently working with the Brooklyn Nets.
