Ryan Gordon was the first UNCG baseball player to earn First-Team All-American Honors.
He was recognized by Baseball America as a Second-Team Freshman All-American recipient, Baseball/Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team, and USA Today/Baseball Weekly Freshman All American Team in 2000. In 2003, he was selected as a First Team Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger All-American. Ryan was named to the SoCon All-Conference first team (pitcher) in 2000, Coaches’ & Media All-Conference first team (DH) in 2002, Coaches’ & Media All-Conference first team (DH) in 2003 and Coaches’ All-Conference second team (DH). He was named to the SoCon All-Tournament team in 2003. He was also voted the 2000 SoCon Freshman of the Year by the coaches.
He batted .416 during his 2003 season, setting a team record, and also led the Spartans in on-base percentage (.473), slugging percentage (.610), hits (96), RBI (50), doubles (20), triples (5) and total bases (141). Ryan was second on the team in home runs (5) and stolen bases (20). His career best 14 strikeouts at Davidson on March 18, 2000, is tied for second all time. His 96 hits during the 2003 season are second all-time in single season records. His 113 strikeouts during the 2000 season are currently third all-time in the single season records. His name is etched in career records nine times in the top 10. He also led the team in multiple offensive categories during the 2002, 2003 and 2004 seasons.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in recreation, parks, and tourism in December 2004.
