Erin Chandler ’96 was a dominant pitcher and one of the foundational figures in UNCG’s fastpitch softball history. Over four outstanding NCAA Division I seasons, Chandler established herself as one of the premier players in the Big South Conference, earning Player of the Year honors in 1995 and Tournament Most Valuable Player recognition in 1996. Also, she received Big South First Team, Second Team and two All-Tournament Team accolades.

Chandler’s command, competitive drive and consistency in the circle made her a cornerstone of the Spartans’ success that included a team-record 49-win season in 1995, Big South regular season and tournament titles and NCAA play-in series. Her impact on the program also earned a selection to the Big South Softball All-Decade Team for the ‘90s.

In the UNCG record book, Chandler’s name is etched in career records including starts (113), appearances (136), innings pitched (702.1), wins (70), ERA (2.11) and shutouts (21). She is also among the UNCG rankings in single season records, including wins (23-1995/21-1996), winning percentage (.929-1993/.821-1995), ERA (1.32 – 1993/1.87-1995), innings pitched (274.1-1996), appearances (54-1996), starts (34-1996/30-1995) and complete games (25-1996). She had three no-hitters in her collegiate career, against St. Peter’s and N.C. A&T in 1994 and East Carolina in 1996.

Chandler’s accomplishments and place in the program record book secure her legacy among UNCG’s all-time greats.
