ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
Kareen Qually Nelson was a standout for the UNCG women’s golf team from 1992-96. According to the Big South Conference record book, she is one of 12 four-time All-Conference selections in league history, along with fellow Spartan and Class of 2007 Hall of Famer Becky Morgan.
Qually Nelson helped the Spartans win the 1995 Big South Championship and earn a bid to the NCAA East Regional as a team. The Blue & Gold finished 12th out of 19 teams.
She is one of the few UNCG women’s golfers who have competed in multiple NCAA Regional Championships, tying for 56th in 1993, tying for 59th in 1994 and tying for 61st in 1995.
Accomplished on the course and in the classroom, she earned back-to-back WGCA All-America Scholar Team honors in 1993 and 1994.
Qually Nelson was recognized by the Big South as a member of the 1990-99 All-Decade Team for women’s golf, along with Morgan.
Following her collegiate campaign, Qually Nelson played for seven years professionally and competed on six continents as either an amateur or professional golfer.
She was inducted into the Alberta Canada Golf Hall of Fame in 2010.
Qually Nelson and her husband, Barry, now live in Pleasanton, California, with daughter Paige (16) and son Graham (14), and their rambunctious puppy, Ivy. After playing seven years professionally, she still enjoys her time out on the course with friends and family.
