The 1981-1982 women's basketball team finished as the National Runners-up in the first-ever NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament. The Spartans, who amassed a record of 25-3 that season, lost in overtime at Elizabethtown College (PA). With a team led by All-American Carol Peschel -the university's first female to earn All-American honors -Lynne Agee coached the Spartans to the national title game in her first season as head coach.

The 1981-82 season began a run of seven consecutive 20-win seasons for the Spartan women's basketball program. 

Team members: Brenda Tolbert Kingfsherry, Sydney Holmes, Wendy Engelmann Gittings; Jackie Maffucci, Jody Mangus, Renee Coltrane Pakkala, Suzanne Reep Marfise, Jill Caps Cannady, Marie Cawley, Carol Peschel, Michele Blazevich Johnson, Lynne Agee (Head Coach), Susan Highfill (Assistant Coach), Candace Call (Manager), and David Tresch (Trainer).
