Scott Jones ’06 was one of the most accomplished and versatile players in the history of UNCG men’s soccer. A dynamic midfielder, Jones earned All-America recognition three times during his four-year Spartan career and became the first player in program history to collect four All-Southern Conference First Team honors. He also earned four All-Region selections and was named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List twice.

After a medical redshirt in 2002, Jones made an immediate impact in 2003, earning SoCon Freshman of the Year honors, First Team All-SoCon recognition and a spot on the SoCon All-Tournament Team. He led the Spartans with 11 assists and finished second on the team in scoring with 23 points.

He finished his UNCG career with 25 goals and 41 assists for 91 points. His 41 assists rank fifth in program history. His leadership helped the Spartans capture SoCon Championships in 2005 and 2006 and make three NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2006, he scored game-winning goals against Virginia Tech and West Virginia as UNCG advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.

In 2005, he led UNCG with 14 assists – seventh nationally at 0.61 per match – and added five goals for 24 points. He also recorded two assists on corner kicks in the Spartans’ NCAA Tournament victory over James Madison.

A standout student-athlete as well as a premier player, Jones received the SoCon Commissioner’s Medal, SoCon Academic All-Conference honors and Academic All-District recognition, leaving a standard for excellence on and off the field. His UNCG career was concluded with induction into the program’s Soccer Wall of Honor.

Jones continued his career professionally with Carolina Dynamo, FC Dallas, Puerto Rico Islanders and Charlotte Eagles. He later represented Puerto Rico internationally, where he resided during his time with the Islanders.
