ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
Penny Thompson Moffitt ’03 was one of the most successful hitters in UNCG softball history and a defining offensive force for the Spartans during their early years in the Southern Conference. A powerful and consistent presence at third base and designated player, Moffitt earned SoCon Player of the Year honors in 2002 and was selected to the All-Conference First Team in each of her four seasons at UNCG.
Along with her conference accolades, she was named NFCA All-Region First Team in 2002 and second team in 2000 and 2003.
When she concluded her career in 2003, Moffitt was the SoCon’s all-time home run leader with 36 and a leader in numerous UNCG offensive categories. Her combination of power, production and consistency made her one of the most feared hitters in the conference at that time and a central figure in the continued development of the Spartan softball program.
More than two decades later, Moffitt still ranks among UNCG’s career leaders in hits (211), doubles (39), home runs (36), RBI (151) and at bats (675). She is among the team rankings in single season batting records, including home runs (13-2002), RBI (47-2002) and at bats (208-2002).
Through her exceptional accomplishments and sustained excellence, Moffitt’s place in the record book and lasting influence on Spartan softball secure her legacy among the program’s all-time standouts.
