ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
The 1983 women's tennis team was led by first-year head coach Lynne Agee. With four freshmen on the roster and a pair of sophomores in the starting line-up, thoughts of a national title were far from Coach Agee's mind. However, it nearly became a reality as the squad advanced to the national championship match, compiling a record of 20-4 along the way, including 14-2 during the spring season.
Amy Brown and Lisa Zimmerman both earned All-American honors from the ITA. After
winning the Dixie Conference title and claiming all-conference honors in all nine positions, the Spartans advanced to the national title match in Claremont, CA The Spartans fell to Principia, 17-13, in the championship.
