ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
Jim Swiggett is commonly referred to as one of the pioneers of men's athletics at UNCG. The second individual to serve as the Men's Intercollegiate Division's Coordinator, he succeeded Frank Pleasants.
He also served in several coaching positions during his tenure at UNCG (1967-80), starting two of the men's programs. Jim was also a member of the faculty as a physical education instructor.
Jim was the first UNCG Men's Basketball coach, serving in the position from 1968-75. A 1967 master's graduate of UNCG, he also started the University's men's golf program. He coached that team from 1967-79. He also served as the interim women's basketball coach during the 1979-80 season.
During his coaching tenure, he coached UNCG's first male student-athlete to receive All-American honors when Joe Caldeira was named a second-team All-American in men's golf.
