The 1983 men's soccer team was about as dominant as can be on its way to a second straight national championship.
Led by legendary coach Mike Berticelli, the Spartans went 23-1-1 on the year - the "blemishes" coming in a 1-1 tie with Wake Forest and a 2-0 setback against North Carolina.

The squad began the season with shutouts in 12 of its first 13 matches. UNCG allowed just eight goals the entire season -two of them coming to North Carolina and two coming in the national championship against Claremont.

The Spartans outscored seven Dixie Conference foes by a combined 44-1. Mike Sweeney became UNCG's first-ever men's soccer All-American in the process, leading the team with 21 goals.

Team members: Eddie Radwanski, Doug Hamilton, Mike Sweeney, Kevin Grant, Chris Petrucelli, Carmen Federico, George Dyer, Vinnie Campanile, John Lopez, Louie Borges, Tony Dias, Tim Borer, Andrew Mehalko, Ron Bertolaccini, Barry Roberts, Billy Mills, Brian Japp, Mario Sanfilippo, Marc Commandatore, Tony Russo, Rich Schlentz, Mike Berticelli (Head Coach), and Ed Thiebe (Assistant Coach).
