ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
Outfielder Nicky Yelverton (formerly Phillips) established himself as a role model and leader both on and off the baseball field at UNCG. He is the only UNCG baseball player to be on two NCAA Tournament teams (1994 and 1997). He was named to the Big South All-Decade Team for the 1990s.
Yelverton collected a pair of Big South First-Team selections in 1996 and 1997 and was tabbed to the second team in 1995. He was named to the 1997 Big South All-Tournament Team and led the league with a .374 batting average that season. Yelverton also paced the Big South in RBI (72) and stolen bases (45) in 1997 while leading the league in triples (8) a year prior.
Career-wise, his 190 runs scored and 87 stolen bases are second all-time, his 151 RBI, 15 triples, and 30 hit by pitch are fourth all time, 206 games played and 113 walks are fifth, 369 total bases is sixth all-time, 237 hits is seventh all-time, .347 batting average and 22 home runs are 10th. He also led the team in multiple offensive categories during the 1995, 1996 and 1997 seasons.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in leisure studies management in December 1997.
