ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
As a central midfielder, she was a pivotal leader in the first four seasons of women’s soccer at UNCG. She was a co-captain and started each match of her career, finishing tied for ninth on the all-time women’s soccer scoring list with 51 points (19 goals, 13 assists). Foels was a four-time All-South Region selection and was honored as an All-American in 1989, the program’s first.
In each of her four years, the Spartans achieved a national top-20 ranking. Prior to the first match in program history, the team was tagged as No. 13, while the 1990 club began the campaign as a preseason No. 2 and spent several weeks at No. 1. The first year of Division I competition (1991) saw the program attain a No. 20 national ranking, becoming the first Spartan program to accomplish this feat.
In 1996, Foels was honored for her achievements in the inaugural class of the UNCG soccer stadium’s “Wall of Honor”.
In 1992, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Management – Marketing and later earned a Master of Arts in Sports Administration from UNC Chapel Hill and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration – Finance from High Point University.
Today, she works in business and stays connected to soccer through coaching youth at the Club level and with the Olympic Development Program.
