The Spartans recorded their fourth straight undefeated Big South Conference season and became the first UNCG women’s soccer team to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Division I Tournament.
Coach Jack Poland’s team went 16-6-1 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the Big South to earn its fifth Big South Regular Season and Tournament Championships. The team lost 3-1 to James Madison University in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
After 27 seasons, the team holds the record for the most home victories with 12 and finished the year at No. 21 nationally.
Ali Lord was named third team All-American, Lord, Raila Maisonlahti and Joy Scott were All-Region and Maisonlahti was Big South Tournament MVP. Poland was Region and Conference Coach of the Year.
The team had five Big South first-team selections, two second-team honorees and six on the All- Tournament team.
Lord scored a team and Big South season record of 26 goals, and her 64 points is second all-time at UNCG and first in the Big South. Paula Domitrovits’ 1,973 minutes in net is fifth all time.
Lord, Maisonlahti, Scott, and Poland were honored on the Big South 1993-99 All-Decade Women’s Soccer Team.
