Melody was the Spartans’ softball head coach for six seasons from 1992-1997 and led UNCG to a 220-129-3 record (.629).  She helped the Spartans to four conference tournament championships along with four appearances in the NCAA Tournament.  Under her tutelage, the Spartans posted 15 First Team All-Conference selections, 14 All-Tournament selections, and two Player of the Year recipients.
She began her career with a 31-win season in 1992 before notching a 36-win season in 1993 that included a conference championship with a 7-0-1 record.  She led the Spartans to the Big South Tournament championship in 1994 with a 35-23 overall record and an NCAA Tournament appearance.

Cope guided the Spartans to a program record 49 wins in 1995 (49-17) as UNCG won both the regular season and Big South Tournament championships.  She followed that up with a Big South Championship in the regular season and tournament in 1996. She capped her career with a 40-25 mark in 1997, leading the Spartans to their fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
