Lynsey McLean – the 2001 Southern Conference Player of the Year and four-time All-Conference selection – was a standout midfielder and defender in a very successful period for the UNCG women’s soccer team.

McLean was a four-time NCAA Tournament participant, helping the 1997 team to UNCG’s first NCAA Tournament win in a women’s sport, 3-1 over Duke in OT in a first-round game. The Spartans were 61-31-2 overall and 30-4 in the SoCon in the four years she played (missed 1999 due to injury).

She was a Freshman All-American and SoCon Freshman of the Year in 1997, twice All-Conference Tournament and Conference Tournament MVP in 2000. She was first team All-Region in 2000 and second team in 2001. She still holds the record for most appearances and starts. And, she was named to the SoCon 100th Anniversary Team.

McLean graduated from UNCG in 2001.

Lynsey and her wife, Emily, live in Cumbria, North West England with their daughter, Martha who is 5. Emily is also expecting their second daughter. Lynsey works as a police officer having served for 19 years.
