ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
Jenny Gleason was a four-time All-Southern Conference performer from 2000-03, the only UNCG athlete to achieve the feat. She was named to the Southern Conference’s 100th Anniversary Women’s Golf Team.
Gleason was the runner-up at the 2000 SoCon women’s golf championship. She finished 8th at the 2001 championship and 4th at the 2002 championship. She finished 7th at the 2003 championship. As a collegiate golfer, she recorded three individual victories. She was the team captain during the 2002-03 season.
Gleason started playing golf at the age of 15 and was heavily influenced by her parents. Vincent Reid, who got her interested in the game, and coaches Kelley Phillips and Lew Smither III are the individuals who had an impact on her career the most. The alumna turned professional in August of 2003, the summer after graduation, and would later find 12 years of tour success, including 9 years on the LPGA Tour.
One of her biggest accomplishments was in 2005, when she won back-to-back titles on the Epson Tour at the Lima Memorial Hospital Futures Classic and Michelob Ultra Futures Charity Golf Classic in a sudden-death playoff. Gleason qualified to play in 3 U.S. Women’s Open Championships.
Gleason, a Clearwater, Fla., native, graduated from UNCG in 2003 (Cum Laude) with a degree in finance, insurance, and real estate.
